Hydration Overhaul

02 Feb 2026

Many people focus on food before Ramadan, but hydration is equally, if not more, critical. Starting 1-2 weeks before Ramadan, consciously increase your water intake. Aim to drink at least 2-3 liters of water spread throughout your waking hours. This practice serves two key purposes. First, it helps fully hydrate your body's cells and tissues, creating a valuable reservoir that will help you cope better during the fasting hours. Second, it trains your kidneys to regulate fluid balance efficiently, potentially reducing the feeling of intense thirst in the initial days of Ramadan. Avoid sudden, large intakes right before Ramadan begins, as this can flush out essential electrolytes. Instead, make steady, consistent hydration a daily habit. Reduce dehydrating beverages like coffee, black tea, and sodas gradually to minimize caffeine withdrawal headaches during the fast.
