Kuwait faces high rates of metabolic challenges, often exacerbated by the late-night dining culture and the abundance of rich dishes like Machboos and Harees. The key for Kuwaitis is metabolic timing and portion control.

• The Diwaniya Defense: Social gatherings are central to Kuwaiti life. When at a Diwaniya, opt for unsalted nuts and fresh fruit over processed desserts. If sweets are served, stick to a "two-bite rule" to satisfy the craving without the sugar spike.

• Fiber-First Iftar: Start your meal with a bowl of Lentil Soup or a large Fatayer-free salad. The fiber slows the absorption of glucose, which is crucial for managing energy levels throughout the night.

• Sodium Management: Kuwaiti cuisine can be salt-heavy. Reduce the use of bouillon cubes and salt in home cooking to prevent the intense thirst that makes fasting difficult the next day. Use fresh lime and dried black lemons (Loomi) for flavor instead.

• Temperature-Controlled Movement: Given Kuwait’s extreme heat, indoor exercise is your best friend. Utilize mall walking or home-based resistance training before Iftar to maintain muscle mass and improve insulin sensitivity.
